As we enter a new age of technology where everything is becoming more digital, we’re starting to see video games go through their own evolution. Gone are the days of cartridges and discs as the go-to way to acquire games, and instead, they’re being placed into consoles and PCs directly via download. However, with services like Xbox Game Pass becoming more popular, there’s a push to move video games more into the cloud. This would allow players to skip (or at least shorten) the download process entirely and just play games immediately without a physical copy, similar to how many people watch their favorite movies and TV shows. The companies are developing Blackout, a film and TV “event” that is being adapted from six different love stories, each penned by a different writer. The project, Netflix notes, is being developed concurrently as a TV series and film adaptation. That means that some of the six stories could wind up in the film, while others are in the TV show. Sources caution that while this seems like a franchise in the making, it’s not a “multiverse” that will consist of multiple films and TV shows — at least not right now. Open / Comment

The live-action Dynasty Warriors film premiered in Hong Kong on April 29. It then opened to mainland China the next day, on April 30. It was initially scheduled to premiere back in 2018. It then moved to a 2019 debut but was inevitably delayed to its 2021 release date. Open / Comment

Timed to Father’s Day weekend, “Fatherhood” drew in viewers with a story about a dad learning to navigate fatherhood while coping with the death of his wife. Notably, the number of viewers reported by Netflix does not adhere to the conventional audience measurement tools used by traditional networks. Instead, the number of viewers is based on the amount of subscribers who watch at least two minutes of a piece of content.
